Blog Assignment #5-Sample: Camera Shy

I have been a professional photographer since 1995. I initially took an introductory photography course with professional photographer, Trina Koster (http://trinakoster.com/). After the course was completed, she hired me to be her darkroom assistant (this was pre-digital days) and I worked for her for about two years. I continued to take more advanced photography classes and I eventually moved out on my own. I specialize in the black and white erotic photography of women.

I prefer to shoot in black and white, for two reasons: First, I'm colour blind and I believe I see the world better in contrast than in colour. Second, I find black and white photos less distracting-colour seems to mask the details of an image.

The photo above (NylonWorld #5) is a sepia image of my wife, Claudia. The image was shot in our living room under natural lighting conditions. I used my Panasonic-Lumix FZ-35 digital camera. I don't own Photoshop or any similar digital software program. I find it more challenging to take an image as a finished product. Photographers have a tendency to use software programs as a crutch, instead of as a tool.  Although, I do crop images, if I want extraneous material to be edited out.

Other than the PanasonicLumix FZ35, I have: Pentax Spotmatic, Pentax Spotmatic F, Pentax Super A and a Polaroid  Spectra. In addition to many and varied lenses which attach to the listed 35mm cameras.
