Blog Assignment #3-Sample: Music to My Ears

In the mid-1980s, Sony created the Walkman. It was a portable cassette player which gave one the freedom to listen to the music of one's choice, without bothering other people or more importantly other people bothering you. As you well know, my culture is about not talking. I purchased several models of the Sony Walkman until the mid-1990s. Every model I owned, I eventually burned the motors out from over use. I loved them. Also at this time, one could begin to record vinyl albums onto blank cassettes, and create your own music play list-all by hand. There were no PCs then, nor the Internet.

Time marched forward and now I have a 2gb mp3 player, specifically a Creative Zen Stone Plus-very similar to the model in the attached image. Now, I can easily upload/download music and audiobooks at my leisure. I never go out without my mp3 player, especially during the work week when I have to travel between universities during the day. Mostly, I listen to unabridged audiobooks which I have downloaded onto my laptop. Currently, I am listening to Desolation Island (Aubrey-Maturin #5) by Patrick O'Brian.
